In late March 2025, Chexy made a big splash by expanding its offerings allowing for new opportunities for sustainable earning - supporting credit card payment of personal taxes and multiple new types of payment methods for bills. Since then I've been hard at work with them to launch physician specific offerings and promotional bonuses. As we expand these services I want to go over some use cases that can be helpful for Docs signing up, in this article we will be going over PHSPs, a recently approved category thanks to RewardsMD advocacy. Check out the other articles here.

As always you can find more Referral information and Disclaimers at the end of the article.

Signing up

Sign up via exclusive referral link will flag your account as potential Physician or Dentist. You'll be contacted by Chexy support to verify your eligibility (think license info), and upon doing so you'll be eligible for 15,000 AP points if you verify your account and process at least $15k in payments by September 15th (CRA installment date!). This is in addition to the currently available new account offer shown below

AND this is in addition to the points you'll earn on whichever card you use, imagine if you're using this to get a big sign up bonus!

PHSP

Incorporated professionals often use a Personal Health Services Plan as a way to provide health benefits to themselves and/or employees. While we all hope to keep these expenses low, for some people on biologic medications or receiving fertility treatments, or with large dental bills not covered by other insurance, this can be a pretty significant "uncaptured" cash flow (ie. something not typically paid with a credit card). After discussion with RewardsMD, Chexy has decided to interpret this as akin to insurance and allow its payment under the insurance category. How would you implement this? Under the insurance category, Chexy currently supports either Pre-authorized Debit (PAD), or Bill Pay - I prefer the Bill Pay approach.

PAD is when you give banking info to the payee, and they draw funds as needed from an account. Chexy will generate this information for you and you can give it to your PHSP for them to draw from. Implementing this approach is somewhat awkward however, as there is a timeline from you initiating the PAD on chexy and it becoming available to the payee (~3d) and there is likely a separate timeline the payee may take from your claim submission before they try to draw the funds, depending on their case backlog. This means there is a chance that Chexy's systems may automatically reach out to you for an unclaimed PAD if your PHSP still hasn't drawn the funds, believing the payment was in error. This is why I prefer the Bill Pay approach, where you send the funds directly to the payee, linking it to your policy number. This way you can submit the funds when you submit your claim, and the PHSP will process it when they get to your submission whether they do so quickly or otherwise. Popular PHSP Brock mentions PAD and e-transfer as ways to fund the account on the website, but they have confirmed in communication with me that Bill Pay is acceptable, with the following instructions:

So the implementation for Brock would be:

  • While not strictly necessary, it is not unreasonable to first email info@brockhealth.ca to let them know your plan to pay via bill pay, and to confirm your policy number etc.

  • Fill in invoice to submit, and make note of total amount owing

  • On Chexy make a one time bill payment to Brock Health Administration with your Policy number

  • Once the bill pay has processed through chexy (~3d) email info@brockhealth.ca with confirmation, your company name, policy number, and the bill pay amount to help them efficiently allocate the bill pay to your invoice. To further simplify this, I use gmail's schedule send option and schedule the email for after Chexy will have processed the payment.

Is it worth it?

You may or may not have seen my previous articles about how to maximize the value you get from a lump sum or ongoing payments through Chexy - in many cases it was already an amazingly powerful tool to harvest rewards from expenses that typically generate none. But now with the rollout of Chexy for Docs we get bonus points, a green light to use Chexy for more business expenses (office rent/overhead, cmpa, etc), and early access to potential additional opportunities. Crunching the numbers, a small family with dental bills paying their PHSP payments of ~$5k/yr could earn:

  • Chexy promo

    • 2k AP points for initial payment

    • 5k AP points for first $5k

  • Earn on spend

    • Depending on the card they use they could earn ~5-7.5k Aeroplan, Avion, Amex or other points

The transaction fee for these payments would be $5k*1.75% =$87.50

Paying a business expense fee of $87.50 to earn ~15k points with a mean value of $300? Sounds good to me, and even better, it will make it that much easier to hit the 15k AP points for first $15k Chexy promo (if verified as an MD after signing up for their account here).

Beyond that, if they didn't already have a good card for this, they could sign up for one and get a sign up bonus on top of it all. This could add 50-200k in additional points depending on the card. Not sure what card to pick? You can check out our card comparison tool, my favourites are the Business Platinum, Business Aeroplan Reserve, and Business Avion Visa Infinite. These cards all earn 1.25x of a highly valuable point useful for aspirational business class travel.

Our Take

Chexy was already one of a short list of top sustainable techniques for earning points. We've partnered to create a program that adds a stack of bonus points and gets you in line for even more features and opportunities. If you're a physician or doctor who hasn't already signed up, now is the time, sign up here to get into the program, then email smallbusiness@chexy.co with your license information. PHSP spend is just one of many point generators that can turn business expenses into business class travel. If your health spending is low it may not be worth the effort, but for some this will add a healthy chunk of points year after year. Check out the main article on Chexy x RewardsMD to follow along as I continue to advocate for new features for us.
